About event
The event will take place in Berlin and in a live stream. Registration is only necessary to participate on site.
Since Zohran Mamdani's spectacular victory in the New York City mayoral primary, a socialist has returned to the arena of world politics. Between his doorstep campaigning, talent for TikTok videos and passion on issues like inequality, he is: young, charismatic and attractive. Politics is increasingly being told about personalities who are effective in the media. On the one hand, this is a further development of the global trend towards marketing optimization of politics; On the other hand, the surface can also be an opportunity to convey deeper political content. And right-wingers are already using this strategy intensively.
Aya Jaff, Wolfgang M. Schmitt and Simon David Dressler discuss the political dimension of coolness, charisma and the role of surface, especially in our modern media landscape. How cool can leftists be before the content falls victim to this aestheticization? But how much superficiality is necessary to make political content popular? And what power do the tech companies have in all of this?
Guests:
Aya Jaff is the founder and author of the book “Broligarchy” and is considered one of the most famous programmers in Germany.
Wolfgang M. Schmitt is an author, YouTuber and podcaster. He has been running the YouTube channel “Die Filmanalyse” since 2011 and is also co-host of “Die Neue Zwanziger” and “Prosperity for All”.
Simon David Dressler is a political influencer and produces videos about left-wing politics for a total of almost 100,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok. He is co-host of the podcast “Upright Democrats” and is pursuing a master’s degree in linguistics.
Registration (see above) is only necessary if you are attending on site.
