'The Spoonbill' tells the story of the impressive comeback of this bird. On display at city farm De Beestenboel, Rozenburg.

In addition to the usual offering of the most beautiful nature films from home and abroad, WFFR will visit the neighborhood again this year. This also applies to the city farm De Beestenboel, in Rozenburg.

This family afternoon starts at 2:30 PM with the main film 'De Lepelaar'. Afterwards, a fun activity is planned, where we will delve deeper into this subject.

About the film

The spoonbill – the iconic white wader with its characteristic spoon-shaped beak – symbolizes one of the greatest nature conservation successes in the Netherlands. Once almost extinct in Western Europe, the species is now making an impressive comeback.

The Wadden Sea offers a safe haven, but young spoonbills are even raised near Amsterdam. Using advanced scientific techniques, this documentary follows the bird's epic journey: from the Netherlands to Southern Europe and deep into Africa. Along the way we discover how the spoonbill managed to survive thanks to the Netherlands – and what challenges still await him in a world full of change.
