The story of the rescue of 669 children's lives, the world premiere

"Everything that is not really impossible can be realized if one fully focuses on it and is determined to do it." (Nicholas Winton)

Nicholas Winton was young in 1938, less than a thirty -year -old successful man working in finance and living life adequate to his age. In December of the same year, Nicholas was preparing for a holiday in the Swiss Alps, but his friend Martin Blake, a member of the British Refugee Committee from Czechoslovakia, asked him to come to Prague instead of skiing. He realized that refugees, mostly Jewish origin, were in direct life threat and decided to take place. Because the German authorities refused to release whole families, he founded the children's section of the British Committee to save at least children. With the help of his mother and several collaborators, he gathered the necessary documents from parents who were interested in sending their child to England and handled permission to travel to the German occupation authorities. All this under the constant supervision of the Gestapo. The last successful child transport was dispatched on August 2. 1939 and the total number of children rescued reached the number 669. The very last train with 250 children was dispatched on September 1, 1939, but was stopped and sent back because the Second World War broke out on the same day. Nicholas Winton did not consider his act special and never talked about him. Just a coincidence in 1988 caused the transports of endangered children from Prague to London to learn his wife Greta. She accidentally found lists of children and the relevant documents on the land in the house where Winton lived. She gave everything to historian Elizabeth Maxwell and thanks to her the whole world learned about it. The form of the musical Winton also has a significant share of the production of director Petr Gazdík.
