Backpacks are more than just an object: they are companions on our journeys through life; they contain our dreams on journeys of discovery and in everyday life
WORK is a duet between a woman and a backpack. In a dance along a shared axis, the two bodies negotiate weight and strength; a relationship develops. Together they embark on a journey through images, memories and stories and invite the audience to connect with the things we carry with and within us.
Through a poetic examination of the connection between caring and carrying, the piece reflects on what we socially commonly refer to as “work” and recognizes our interdependence in caring work.
Concept, choreography, performance: Mariana Romagnani
Dramaturgy, choreography Assistance: Kysy Fischer
Sound director: Jan Gehmlich
Lighting design: Raquel Rosildete
Language: little spoken language, simple English, German
Duration: approx. 50 min
A production by Mariana Romagnani in collaboration with DOCK ART.
Funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
Content Note:
The performance lasts approximately 50 minutes. Some English and German are spoken. On Friday, November 14th, a translation into German sign language will be offered. The piece is also accessible without knowledge of these languages.
Various seating options (chairs, bean bags) are available. Most of the piece is quiet, but there are moments of strong bass frequencies and sudden noises. There are also brief moments of bright lighting.
While the performance is not specifically aimed at a young audience, it is child-friendly. All ages are welcome. Adults and accompanying children can leave and re-enter the performance space at any time. The auditorium remains softly lit throughout the entire performance.
