Collective strategies for survival in the housing market
15. September / WORKSHOP from 17:00 // PANEL DISCUSSION from 19:00
Galerie Jaroslav Fragner, Betlémské náměstí, Prague
🏠Housing is without a doubt one of the basic human needs, yet in the Czech Republic it is increasingly difficult to afford for an increasingly large part of society. Real estate prices and rents are growing faster than wages in the long term, only a limited part of the population can afford a mortgage today, and the uncertainty associated with housing is becoming a daily experience not only for young people, but also for families, seniors and people working in ordinary professions.
🏠 What options do we have if we don't want to face the housing crisis on our own? What collective strategies already exist today and how can they complement, support and inspire each other? And can cooperation be the way to more affordable, more stable and dignified housing?
👉The panel discussion will try to look at the current housing crisis through three collective strategies: organizing tenancy and defending tenant rights (Tenants' Initiative), community and participative housing (Cohousing Talks) and cooperative and non-speculative models of housing (Shared houses).
👉The discussion will not be just about introducing different models. We want to look together for their points of contact, the possibilities of mutual connection and how these initiatives can contribute to making housing more accessible and dignified for as many people as possible.
Come and learn more about these organizations, discuss with us, share your own situation and maybe even get involved.
👉The discussion will feature Freia Böhm (Tenants' and Tenants' Initiative), Terezie Grau (Cohousing Talks), Barbora Bakošová (Re-set) and Tomáš Němeček (Shared houses). Anna Remešová (Družstvo Seagulls and Shared Houses) will be in charge of the moderation.
✍️Before the panel discussion, a workshop will take place in the gallery space from 5:00 p.m. for interested parties who are thinking about cooperative or community housing and want to meet similar people who are also looking for their collective. Come even if you just want to learn about what Shared Houses do and what legal form they use for housing and why.

The organization connects initiatives in the field of cooperative and community housing, organizes educational activities, prepares methodical materials and provides expert advice. It currently brings together four housing projects (in Prague, Děčín, Adamov and Pomezí) and one project for community and cultural events (in Prague).
