About event

Maud Kotasová, who presents her latest works at the Tma exhibition we are talking about, works as a volunteer with the organizations Brno for Ukraine and Stand with Ukraine Brno, where, for example, she helps weave camouflage nets for soldiers. On Wednesday, October 16, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the entrance hall of the House of Arts, it will be possible not only to get acquainted with the materials and techniques that became the inspiration for the works on display, but also to participate in activities that Maud Kotasová regularly participates in.

From 6 p.m., there will also be a guided tour of the exhibition.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

A prominent artist of the middle generation, Maud Kotas, likes to be inspired by the raw form of real life. She deals with found texts, creates photographs that she copies onto objects, or creatively transforms them through embroidery or perhaps engraving. An important part of her work is the theme of several years of traveling through Europe and the relationship with her Catalan partner, who is a truck driver. One of the initial works reflecting the author's nomadic life is an engraving on the sheet metal of the back of the cab of a Renault Magnum tractor called Personal matrix. Maud Kotas' work largely paraphrases the authentic creativity of truck drivers who decorate their cars in various ways. He is inspired by experiences from his travels, contact with Catalan culture, the life of ordinary people. Her themes are connected by the experience of a strong love relationship. This brings a universal, generally comprehensible level to her works, which makes it possible to reach a wider audience. The expressiveness of her work is also enhanced by her thoughtful work with contrast and paradox, for example, when she applies the fine handmade embroidery technique, considered to be typically feminine, to car body parts or, for example, to trash cans. The robustness of her exceptional work can be illustrated, for example, by the work Hell Is a Material, which she realized in the Sandwich II gallery in Bucharest. In 2022, she embroidered the walls of a tin container here with motifs of hell taken from a fresco from a nearby church. Materials intended for embroidery are perforated with a drill. In the halls of the Jaroslav Krále Gallery, he is exhibiting a new series of embroidered objects, inspired by the modest background of the working environment of factory workers.
