Workshop 14:00 to 17:00
Corrupting Youth with an Open Questioning Mindset

Questions are powerful. In fact, they are so powerful that the ancient Greeks killed Socrates for asking too many of them.
Questions can change lives, overthrow regimes and start new scientific fields.

In this workshop, Peter Worley is going to demonstrate how to ask good questions in a pedagogical setting. He is going to explain how questions work and how they can be used to facilitate inquiry in the classroom, using principles derived from ancient Greek philosophers but supported by modern-day research.

Peter Worley is a leading figure in Philosophy for Children (P4C) and the developer of th PhiE (Philosophical Inquiry) method, widely used in classroom and public discussions internationally. Peter is the author/editor of eleven books and multiple papers and articles on education and philosophy practice.

Socrates' questioning under the microscope, Peter Worley's lecture and the launch of his book Questioning

Perhaps you have never thought of Socrates as someone who has something to say to your teaching. At the same time, he was a teacher at the core. One who knew nothing but to ask. And this is what made him one of the most important teachers in history.

Peter Worley, a British lecturer with more than twenty years of experience in philosophizing with children, looks at what really stands behind the Socratic method — and above all, what it can be used for in a real classroom, with real children, in modern teaching.
Come if you are interested in how to ask questions that really make children think. And to which even you as teachers don't have to have ready answers.

Peter Worley is the author of the book Questioning: 100 ideas for teachers and lecturers, which was published in a Czech translation by the Pink Box publishing house. After the lecture, it will be possible to buy the book and have it signed.

The lecture is held in English. Participation is free, registration is required.

The event is organized by the Faculty of Pedagogy of Charles University, the Pink Box platform, the Institute of Philosophy and Religious Studies of the Faculty of Law, the Institute of Living Philosophy, the Department of Civic Education and Philosophy and DIDAKTIKON.
