PLACE: Neytiri Dance School, Bratislava-Ružinov
LEVEL: open level (beginners and more advanced)
TEACHER: Daniela Spellman
LIVE MUSIC: JAMADAN drummers and friends
PRICE: 30 euros
APPLICATIONS: [email protected]
DETAIL INFO:
We look forward to providing an African expressive dance experience in Bratislava as well. Afro-dance enjoys worldwide popularity and more modern genres that are danced to reproduced music are in fashion.
But West African expressive dance brings us back to the roots, when the dancer is directly connected to the musicians and they communicate with each other. Dance and music are one whole, and rhythms and dance steps are associated with a specific social event/celebration. Anyone can dance and spectators become dancers in a few seconds.
At our workshop we will learn the dance steps of the Bara (Mali) rhythm. We will orient ourselves according to the live music that will play for us. We will try steps that are gentler and more physically demanding. Even beginners can do it, and at the same time we know how to awaken the best in more advanced dancers.
TEACHER: Daniela Spellman has been dancing West African and Afrodiaspora folklore for 10 years in various countries under the tutelage of world-famous instructors. As a dance instructor, she taught in the Netherlands and China. Currently, she cooperates with the JAMADAN group, playing traditional West African rhythms, as a dance performer, workshop lecturer and animator for teambuilding activities.
DRUMMERS: members of the JAMADAN group (www.jamadan.sk), who have been on the scene for 20 years and besides concerts and drum shows, long-standing drumming workshops, interactive drumming as team building and African dance workshops
