About event

WORKSHOP: WOODEN INK
Limited capacity: 10 places
Thursday 19 March / 4.00pm – 5.30pm

Working with woodblock ink is somewhat of a small miracle. This historic ink has been used for centuries - for example, Leonardo da Vinci, Victor Hugo or Johann Sebastian Bach wrote with it. At the same time, it was the ink used to record official documents: weddings, contracts and funerals. As Jason Logan writes in Make Ink, it's an ink with a pedigree.

But its magic also lies in the process itself. When you start writing or painting with it, the color gradually changes and only during the work it turns into a deep black-black. This moment of transformation has an almost alchemical effect.

The workshop follows the exhibition of Juliana Mrvová In her garden (pleasure), in which the author also works with natural pigments and vegetable dyes and connects the painting process with natural materials and the landscape. Some of the exhibited works are also painted with boletus ink, which is created from bollards - formations formed on oak trees by the action of insects.

In the workshop, we will first make bollard ink together with Helena Cibulková, who works with natural pigments and vegetable dyes as part of the Wolves & Onions project. Afterwards, you will try drawing and painting with ink together with the painter Juliana Mrvová.

Come and try the material that combines nature, history and artistic practice.
