Workshop "Juden zwischen Deutsch und Tschechisch" (in deutscher Sprache)

The linguistic preferences of the Jews living in the Bohemian countries were not only a question of identity, but also of social and cultural anchorage. Their development was dynamic and often ambiguous. They played a crucial role, especially in the process of national movements in the 19th century. The contemporary historiography tries to revise stereotypes, especially when it comes to the dependence of the national identity of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravia on their linguistic-cultural preferences and the homogeneity of the linguistic-cultural identity of the Jewish minority in the Bohemian countries in general. It is based primarily on the situation of the Jews in Bohemia, while the special features of the Moravian Jews, whose history developed differently, are somewhat neglected.
