The club building with boat shed by Rowing Association Nautilus on the Nieuwe Maas and is one of the first examples in Rotterdam to the modern American architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright from the 1920s - 30s of the last century. And let that be exactly the period when swing dancing like Lindyhop and collegiate shag saw the light of day in New York. It was not long before these exuberant dances found their way to Europe and therefore also to Rotterdam. During the Open Monumentendag Rotterdam we dive into the past as a dancing.

Swing Dancing What could be nicer than dancing here in the style of the start of this building? There are tasting lessons Shag and Lindyhop on both Open Monument Days. The development of Shag and Lindyhop went hand in hand with the development of jazz. For that reason, the term "swing" is used for both cheerful dances. You can learn these dances at Dansschool Swing in Rhythm in Rotterdam. And fixed tests during Open Monumentendag in the Nautilus club building. The Nautilus building was from 1924. Undoubtedly, there was also partying on Shag of Lindyhop. Dance you, now a hundred years later again?

It is a fusion of many different dances, but mainly based on jazz dance, tap dancing and the Charleston. Lindyhop's development went together with the development of jazz. For that reason, the term swing is used for both this dance style and for the jazz style on which is danced. The dance in the large dance halls of Harlem, such as the Savoy Ballroom, danced on the music of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, among others.
