Weaving workshop with flax
Vlas is a sustainable crop with a huge number of applications, including the well -known linen. In the past, linen was the most used textile in the Netherlands and Rhoon. The rise of plastics in the sixties was also at the expense of many of the technical applications of linen. On top of that, cheap cotton and the competition from low -wage countries. As a result, the textiles from our country and the flax virtually disappeared from the field and knowledge and craft to work with the crop was lost.
In the Buijtenland of Rhoon, flax has been back on the fields for five years. Our goal is to bring the flax back to the local textile chain. We do this with the project Linen Beyond Fashion . We will design and teach in the coming years so that there is a new generation of fashion designers that appreciates the value of flax and can work with it. A collaboration between the farmers from the Buijtenland van Rhoon, Van de Bilt seeds and flax, textile expert Maaike Gottschal and the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week.
