About event
Lebanese singer and songwriter Yasmine Hamdan was once dubbed “Lebanon’s underground icon” before she burst onto the international stage. With Soap Kills she founded one of the first indie bands in her country, and as a solo artist she thrilled many people with albums like “Ya Nass” (2013) and “Al Jamilat” (2017), on which she mixed the influences of her indie socialization with the sounds and moods of traditional Arabic songs from the 40s to 60s. Yasmin Hamdam writes her lyrics in Arabic, French and English - and shows a poetic sensitivity in each language, but also often a biting, critical humor. Many discovered her through the Jim Jarmusch film “Only Lovers Left Alive,” where she makes a cameo appearance.
Now, for the first time in eight years, Yasmine Hamdan's new album is being released, which she will present on a European tour with three stops in Germany. “I Remember I Forget” comes out on September 19th and is of course heavily influenced by the political situation in Lebanon – which she calls “a tiny country with a gaping wound”. About the first single "Hon", Yasmine Hamdan says: "It was the first song I wrote for my new album. The lyrics came from that experience - a break, an inability to distinguish between here and there. I wrote the lyrics with the Palestinian poet and friend Anais Alaili after August 4th, but it seems inextricably linked to what we have experienced in the last year and a half have.”
