With YES, Nadav Lapid, after his Golden Bear winner SYNONYMES, once again delivers an examination of his home country Israel. YES was created after October 7, 2023 and is clearly influenced by the events of the following months. The pain over those killed by Hamas is reflected in him, as is the anger over the blind nationalism that has characterized Israeli society ever since, and the despair over Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip. Wrapped in a satire that hardly leaves you time to breathe between shrill images and quiet moments, YES is a provocative, aesthetically innovative film that invites discussion.
This is followed by a film discussion with the director Nadav Lapid.
