Yttling Jazz is the project of the Swedish producer, songwriter and artist Björn Yttling (Peter Bjorn and John, Abstract Crimewave, live with Lykke Li, Jeff Bhasker, Miike Snow). His new album “Illegal Hit” was released in September 2025. Two decades after his debut “Oh Lord Why Can’t I Keep My Big Mouth Shut?” Yttling presents a new ensemble of Swedish jazz greats. The result is a rich, cinematic collection of instrumental pieces, inspired by Brian Eno, Jean-Michel Jarre, Nino Rota, Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk and thus a homage to a lush, sensual jazz that played a key role in Yttling's musical influence.
Yttling grew up with jazz and studied at one of the most renowned conservatories in Europe. In his youth, he traveled weekly by train to Stockholm to receive private lessons from the legendary, late Esbjörn Svensson. “Illegal Hit” is a return to these roots - as well as to his rural, mysterious origins in the north of Sweden - and opens up an extraordinary perspective: that of a jazz bandleader who is also a celebrated indie hit producer.
It is serious music by serious musicians - but at the same time playful, sincere and permeated by the eccentric charm that has always characterized Yttling's career. It is precisely this spirit that has led to collaborations with a variety of artists, including Lykke Li - with whom Yttling has worked since her debut - as well as Robyn, Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, First Aid Kit, Tom Odell, Weezer, The Pretenders, The Hives and David Lynch.
