About event
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 4:30 p.m., we invite you to the premises of the library at Pribinova 1 in Košice, where we have prepared a discussion entitled From the history of the battles of the Second World War in Eastern Slovakia. We will talk with the historian Mgr. Tomáš Hofírk (KVH Polom Žilina), who will present two of his novelties in the field of military history. He recently co-authored the publications "Gott mit uns! Slowakei 1939 - 45" and "Kalinov 1944". the announcement (German Sterbebild) was made by the family of the fallen soldier and could also be published in contemporary newspapers and magazines. Today, notices are an important collector's item. In the publication you will find more than 800 portraits of soldiers who found their final resting place in Slovakia. You will learn how important sterbebilds are for a military historian as a historical source and what information we can get from them.
The second new book "Kalinov 1944" was created on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the village of Kalinov, which we commemorated on September 21 this year. It is an extensive 400-page work, the main chapter of which deals with the battles in the Kalinov area in September 1944. It also briefly mentions the situation of the village during the First World War. An important part is the pictorial appendix, in which you will find documentation from the demining of the village after the Second World War and from the construction of monuments in the village. The book contains many period photographs of Soviet and German soldiers, situational maps, portraits of commanders and pictures of the civilian population from Kalinov and the wider area. Part of the event will be a symbolic exhibition of the military of the time and book publications connected with the battles of the Second World War in eastern Slovakia.
