Men's mental health is an invisible, unspoken crisis. Stigma, societal expectations and stereotypes about what boys and men must be like to be 'man enough' prevent them from being able to ask for help when they need it. This outdated myth of masculinity causes huge problems - the mental pain is real, and the consequences of ignoring it are devastating. Almost 83 percent of completed suicides in Slovakia last year were committed by men, while up to a quarter of them were people aged 40-49.
How to break the silence on this topic? Why do we constantly associate strength and masculinity with suppressing emotions, with the ability to handle everything without words, with the image of a man who knows no fear or tears? What bothers men the most?
And how to get out of this circle? How to define true masculinity? How to raise boys so that they are healthy and able to cope with the social pressure of the environment?
These and other questions will be answered by the guests of the discussion:
👉 Norbert Moravanský, medical examiner
👉 Martin Ondrejkovič, psychotherapist
👉 Matúš Zajac, photographer
👉 Branislav Dobšinský, journalist
Discussion of the League for Mental Health and The Central European House of Photography with the support of UNIQA is moderated by Katarína Strýčková
