About event
🟡 We invite you to a series of historical films (35 mm) about Ostrava, which will be accompanied by commentary by the historians of the National Film Archive, Alena Šlingerová and Terezie Hlaváčková.
📽️ Modern Ostrava was born one hundred years ago. The original ambitious project of the administrative connection of 15 municipalities into one urban unit in the so-called Greater Ostrava failed, but even then, at least the surrounding municipalities were connected to Moravská Ostrava. This growth of the city attracted not only new residents, but also the interest of filmmakers, who began to discover Ostrava as an interesting location for filming; the oldest surviving footage of the city, preserved in the National Film Archive, dates back to 1923. The presented documentaries and news films show everyday life in the metallurgical city, which was dominated by heavy industry after the Second World War. The aim was to select images reflecting Ostrava during the First Republic through the communist period up to the beginning of the 1990s. Viewers will thus have the opportunity to watch films with a propaganda ethos on the one hand, but also film-makingly interesting non-traditional efforts by young filmmakers on the other. The last film reflects the ecological theme, which is absolutely essential for the area.
Film range:
▪️ Newsreel film about Ostrava (J.S. Kolár, 1932)
▪️ For a new socialist Ostrava (A . Křůmal, 1951)
▪️ Ostrava film fortnightly 1952
▪️ Ostrava film fortnightly 1953 Artists among the working
▪️ Ostrava film fortnightly 1953 - Parachutist competition
▪️ Země zemi (E. Schorm, 1962)
