Balleka
When Gašpar Fejérpataky-Belopotocký in 1830 presented the comedy of Ján Chalupka entitled Kocúrkovo or just to stay in shame in Liptovsky Sv. Nicholas, the performance was caused by a considerable stir. This has happened several times during history. Last time in connection with the production of this title directed by Rastislav Ballek at the Slovak National Theater (2023). While the audience left the hall, critics of this Slovak classic attributed several nominations. In the prestigious poll of the board in 2023, Kocúrkovo won the most awards.
What were the context of the creation of Kocúrkov and the assumptions for his success in the 19th century? What were the reasons and fates of his introduction in the Slovak professional theater and what place in this tradition occupies the production of Rastislav Ballek?
The lecture will be devoted to the specifics of the search and name of the Slovak cultural identity in the wider time and spatial context.
