About event
Escape aid and fate at the Berlin Wall

Three of his tours were never uncovered by the state security (Stasi): the legendary "doppelganger tour", in which a escape helper went through the border control twice with a trick and thus received a registered ID for a refugee-in this way around 100 people came to the West; The escapes with a Cadillac, in each of which a refugee, hidden in the dashboard, was smuggled across the border - about 200 refugees in three years; And the "French tour", in which a French Allied up to 14 refugees could bring up the border in a tour-around 250 refugees came from the GDR to the FRG in four years.
Burkhart Veigel returned to Berlin after 37 years as a resident orthopedist and trauma surgeon in Stuttgart in 2007 to research and write about the topic of escape and escape aid. From this, two books have been created, "Paths through the Wall-Escape Aid and Stasi between East and West" and "Frei", a novel about an east-west love, which he wrote together with his wife, the writer Roswitha Quadflieg.
