About event
Zekameron is a powerful literary testimony about life in prison under Alexander Lukashenko's regime. The author, Maksim Znak, a political prisoner, wrote this book in 2020-2021, at the beginning of his ongoing imprisonment.
On hundreds of pages, he describes everyday life in pretrial detention, the relationships between prisoners and guards, and above all, how a person copes with lack of freedom and preserves his humanity. The book is composed of individual short stories, which are connected by music and songs to the texts of Maksim Znak. Thanks to this format, a suggestive image of life behind bars was created, which will deeply affect every viewer. Zekameron is not just a simple reportage, but also a work of art that opens an important debate about human rights and freedom in Belarus.
