Everyone knows what happened on Národní třída on November 17, 1989, but do we also adequately remember the protests due to environmental devastation that preceded these events?
Already on November 11, the unbearable smog situation drove the residents of Teplice into the streets, which then Under pressure, public officials promised to start a dialogue.

The rise of civil society in response to the intolerable state of the environment and its connections with the Velvet Revolution will be discussed by Professor Bedřich Moldan, a naturalist and the first post-revolutionary Minister of the Environment, Doubravka Olšáková, a historian dedicated to the history of the Cold War and environmental history, and Jan Šícha, co-organizer of the student demonstrations in November 1989 in Ústí nad Labem. The debate is moderated by Matěj Moravanský, a doctoral student focusing on environmental history and a climate reporter for Deník Referendum.

From 8:00 p.m., a short film by Jan Svěrák Ropáci, for which he won a student award in 1988, will be screened Oscar.

The debate and subsequent screening will take place in room 101 at the Faculty of Law.
