What will we discuss in the discussion?
Gender inequality in the digital world and the IT sector it has significant social and economic consequences. In the current dynamically developing digital era, characterized also by the demand for expertise and diverse solutions or perspectives, the representation of women in this industry remains insufficient. The disparities regarding the representation of women in the digital sector cover a variety of areas, from education to salaries, and to truly address the issue, it is essential that the topic also becomes a political priority. We already know today that a higher representation of women in this area would lead to several favorable trends. Addressing the lack of IT and technology professionals will also contribute to the wider development of the digital sector in the EU and help ensure sufficient digital skills in an innovative and competitive Europe.
What is the extent of gender inequality in the digital sector today and what are the the main causes of this condition? In what ways can society overcome the prevailing gender stereotypes that discourage women from careers in IT and technology? How to stimulate the interest and determination of female students in this sector? How to support the digital talent of younger and older women and at the same time maintain this potential in Slovakia? What EU initiatives are currently aimed at supporting women in digital technologies and to what extent are they effective?
The discussion is organized by the Office of the European Parliament in cooperation with the Slovak Society for Foreign Policy (SFPA) and the City Library in Bratislava.
