🏺What do we bring with us from our travels? What stories do objects from another culture carry? And what does that say about us? 🏺

🗺️ The exhibition Biographies of people and things approximates the destinies of non-European objects from the collections of the Bratislava City Museum and current collectors. It examines their origin, function and the circumstances under which they ended up in the collection fund.
At the same time, it reflects the degree of colonial thinking, which in the past influenced not only collecting practices, but also ideas about the world outside of Europe.

🗺️ These objects, often souvenirs from travels, once shaped our image of other cultures. Today, we try to read their meaning anew - with respect, critical distance and understanding.
We realize that the exhibition captures only a fragment - a record from a diverse mosaic of cultural exchanges. Despite this, the research of these objects becomes an important source of our knowledge, as well as a mirror of interest in other cultures, which was present in Bratislava once and is still here today. It is made up of the stories of men and women from Bratislava who create personal relationships with objects from different parts of the world.
