About event
Žižkov estates is a walk outside the former Prague walls, to the former village called Viničná Hora or in the German variant Weinberge, to the places that we have known as Žižkov since 1877. The participants will find former homesteads, inns, vineyards and chapels, often remembered only by the local name, sometimes the remains of buildings built in various ways by much later construction. They will remember the time when there was a picturesque countryside in place of a vibrant city.
Participants will walk through Žižkov in a typical way – zigzagging up and down. It will start from Olšanské náměstí, they will remember the former famous Bezovka inn with a pond and a garden, through Havlíčkovo náměstí with the central town hall to the monument to the poet and Nobel laureate Jaroslav Seifert. He was born in today's Bořivojov, then Riegrov, street, and the poor environment here shaped his relationship to the world. On the way from the neo-Gothic church of St. Prokop will be reminded of the former estate Reissmanek, then Dolní Sklenářka and the chapel of the Virgin Mary in the place of today's Jára Cimrman theater.
In the lower and oldest part of Žižkov, the Šubrtka estate, the Husníka and Häusler factories, the sites of the last vineyards and the Velká Proutková estate, connected with the construction of the city spa, await the participants. In the place of Velká Hrabovka, there used to be a factory for the production of paper goods, in the neighboring estate and the courtyard of Miranka, participants will see the construction of a factory for the production of metal goods, today the seat of the Ponec Theatre. The estates Červený lis, Hrabovka, Křenovka, Komotovka, Šubertka and Dirixka still await their fates. The walk will end at Winston Churchill Square.
