About event
"...alley of withered fig trees and the black market of wine, where contacts with smugglers are established with a whistle hung around the neck."
Accept the invitation to the launch of this year's fifth issue of Plav for returns in Italian prose. Alice Flemrová, Jiří Pelán and Pavla Přívozníková will talk about the texts of southern Italy and the translation of contemporary Italian literature.
Samples from the texts of Francesca Boemia and Demetrio Marra will be heard, which "quite directly confront the burning questions of the present, in which hope collides with reality, children with parents and political with the intimate" as well as "carnival epics" by Stefano D'Arrigo.
The texts will be accompanied musically by the improvisational group Udk and also by a rare guest, writer and performer Francesca Boemia.
The south and the north of Italy seem to be constantly turning over – instead of the center, which would allow the shooter of the compass to indicate a clear direction, the complex (dis)order of many Italys emerges. For whom and to what is the north the south and vice versa? And where do we go back, if the bridges between them were perhaps never supposed to be built, or are they being built again and again?
The discussion will be moderated, the samples will be read and the evening will be conducted by the author of the concept Martina Mecco & responsible editor Jan Musil.
The event will take place thanks to the support of the City of Prague, the State Fund for Culture and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Illustration by Finn Stiller. Quotations from Francesca Boemia's work Acquacantiera translated by Pavla Přívozníková.
