About event

📣 We invite you to participate in the next meeting from the discussion series "Understanding memory - Between reportage and science"
📍 The meeting will take place at the History Meeting House in Warsaw and will be broadcast online.

⭐️ Speakers:
Kamil Bałuk, author of the publication "A long time ago on television"
Dr Dariusz Piechota, author of the publication "On the wave nostalgia. The 1980s and 1990s in the latest popular culture and literature"
🎤 Conducted by: Dr. Małgorzata Pakier

❗️The meeting will be additionally translated into Polish sign language.

📺 It's very easy to imagine a room with a wall unit covered with posters torn from "Bravo" or "Popcorn" Nirvana and Madonna. The TV shows 'Świat dla chiechch' or 'M jak miłość', we chew a ball of gum, read a comic book with Donald...
🎞 In the December edition of Zrozumieć Pamięć we return to what we already know - Kamil Bałuk and Dariusz Piechota will talk about television, pop culture and nostalgia for the 80s, 90s and 00s.

📽 Kamil Bałuk in "A long time ago on television" talks to the people who created Polish television (Cezary Żak, Jacek Kawalec, Ilona Łepkowska...). They give us a sneak peek at working in front of cameras, coping with popularity, and sharing the behind-the-scenes of filming series, game shows and sitcoms.

📟 In his book "Na wave of nostalgia", Dariusz Piechota describes the longing for the analog world and the processes of reproduction of the past in contemporary pop culture. It shows how music, dishes and everyday life from the Polish People's Republic come back to us, and why we like Stranger Things and Taylor Swift.

💬 We invite you to talk about the things we like, the series we watched, the music we listened to.
