About event

The largest district heating network in Berlin belongs again to the country and thus the citizens. We are still celebrating this as a great success of Berlin civil society, which has fought for the buyback for years.

But how is it going now?
Vattenfall warmth is now called Berliner Energie und Wärme GmbH (Bew). But there are still many open questions more than a year after the buyback, how the conversion of the network can succeed for a future -proof, ecologically and socially just heat supply. The outdated plan from Vattenfall times, which continues to focus on combustion, is not suitable for this. The coal phase -out is firmly planned, but instead of burning wood, garbage or hydrogen instead of coal, the climate problem does not solve and threatens to start a price spiral.
discussed with us!
What should the new edition of the decarbonization timetable look like so that Berlin can heat ecologically and socially just in the future? What does this mean for district heating prices and how can Berliners participate in the future of district heating? We want to discuss with experts from politics, business, science and of course you and you.
We look forward to exciting podium guests:
-Franziska Giffey, Economic Senator & Bew-Supervision Council chairman
-Kerstin Busch, technology chief of Bew
-Christine Kühnel, co-managing director of the Reiner-Lemoine-Instituts
- Markus Kamrad, board member of the Berlin
- Neelke Wagner Consumer Center, Coordinator Berlin Renewable and a speaker for climate justice at PowerShift
