How can children and young people actually demand their right to a healthy environment in court and gain access to justice?

Ecological children's rights are both at the level of international law - Children's rights are anchored in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and General Comment No. 26 - as well as at the constitutional level in the BVG.
However, their practical implementation in this country is often lacking. Several “climate lawsuits” by children and young people who have called for effective climate protection in the spirit of intergenerational justice have so far been unsuccessful.

As part of the third ENRICH training for authorities representatives and decision-makers, we are therefore devoting ourselves to the question of how the path to public justice can be paved for children and young people.

Together with Claudia Fuchs (Professor of Public Law, Vienna University of Economics and Business), Sebastian Öhner (Children's and... Youth Advocate Vienna) and Helmut Sax (Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights), we also discuss which measures and action steps will be necessary from an international law perspective with regard to General Comment No. 27.
