Autobahn, Feldwege, Landstraßen. Thees Uhlmann has long been his own road movie. But only this album traces the trip with co -travel. It leads from AJZ to the stadium, from Hemmoor to New York, through Germany for more than three decades. Rock, indie, punk and what else. Hupa only in extreme emergencies. Band members of the Tomte group have collected on mouse -gray carpet tiles. Adrenaline, unrest, alcohol. It is the deepest night, at some point around the turn of the millennium, one waves around with a construction site lighting, another has apparently stolen rags and sponges from the cleaning wood that stood around the corner at the supermarket. Oh God! The shitty neighbors were guaranteed to see that. Thees Uhlmann has to call these bins to order to order, I think. He is her supervisor, I had lovingly promised him, if it got tight, could "whip with me". But nobody looks tired here - and Thees does not seem as if he is interested in being mad, on the contrary.

Thees himself lived there for a while. "In Cologne and then in my room" is the earliest piece of this collection here. And a regional link that will never tear off over the decades, the ominous hemmoor: "You think you are just behind New York / but Hemmoor is cooler than you / at least you know what you are about".
later "in Cologne" also appears again on the Tomte debut album. "You know what I mean", an impatient punk plate. Slide: Just let everything totally go. In addition, she marks the official start of the Longlasting Bromance between Thees and Marcus Wiebusch, which still keeps indie-Germany on the cards: Grand Hotel van Cleef.

Tomte himself only greater attention in the Nuller years, her songs run in the alternative discos, the clips on Viva, "Korn and Sprite", "I call the name", " Sang from you all the time ”,“ The last big whale ”and such. The changing gold pieces, which were Tomte apart from him, contributed a lot to the story, not just construction site lights or sponges from the cleaning car. But the signs were on change towards the end of the decade.

that Thees would continue solo, therefore seems more logical than surprising. Nevertheless, the first song of the first own album changes its perception as a songwriter. "To spawn and die, the salmon pull up the river", an once-in-a-lifetime piece about return and new start, and a Super 8 video runs. In a podcast, Thees once tells how he fought in his home in Hemmoor and even later to fight for himself as an artist. The song stands for overcoming this struggle. This is how the three previous solo albums become a statement piece. Something you can orientate yourself. A kind of lost humanism with guitars, stormy, wistful moments, wit, longing, consolation. The songs try to be a more precise marker than GPS could ever get. In “I am the driver who drives the women after hip-hop video shoots home”, Thees Uhlmann powerlessness vs. Equally intimate and hymnically bordered in a Laconian story.

This type should really write a book, you think. And of course knows: he has. More than one. "Sophia, Death and I" was filmed by Charly Hübner last year.
