About the film:
Soviet Union, 1937 - Thousands of letters from prisoners who were wrongly accused by the regime are burned in a prison cell. Despite all odds, one reaches its destination, the desk of the newly appointed local prosecutor Alexander Korniev.
Korniev does everything he can to meet the prisoner, a victim of agents of the NKVD secret police. The young prosecutor, a committed Bolshevik with integrity, suspects foul play. His quest for justice takes him to the Prosecutor General's Office in Moscow. In the age of the great Stalinist purges, this is the fall of one man into the corridors of a totalitarian regime that does not bear that name.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Georgi Demidov.
TWO PROSECUTORS (Два прокурора Dwa prokurora) celebrated its world premiere in competition at the 78th Festival de Cannes in 2025 and was awarded the "Prix François Chalais". The international press agreed: “Masterful” - “dry humorous mixture of Kafka and sharp satire” - “Bitterly funny”.
The film will be shown in Russian with German subtitles.
The screening will be followed by a film discussion with director Sergei Loznitsa.
