About event
The Buschmann Trio plays two piano trios that provide an insightful insight into the early work of their composers. The first work comes from Dmitri Shostakovich, who wrote it at the age of 17 under the impression of his first love experience. In a compact, single-movement form, characteristic
stylistic features emerge that would shape his later work. The second trio was composed by Sergei
Rachmaninoff at the age of 20 as an immediate reaction to the sudden death of Peter Tchaikovsky. It is
an extensive homage that is based on great romantic role models in form and expression. Rachmaninoff
even takes up the dedication that Tchaikovsky prefaced his own piano trio: À la mémoire
d’un grand artiste. Together, the two pieces show forms of expression and compositional approaches that give an idea of the composers' future path.
