Jan-Matěj Rak

Jan-matěj Rak is a Czech guitarist and singer-songwriter.

He was born in 1977 in the Finnish city of Jyväskylä, where he spent the first four years of his life. He started playing the guitar at the age of five, but he was not interested in classical music at that time - certainly not enough to stick with the guitar. It took many more years, when he quickly changed his interests, before he returned to his instrument again.

In music, he focuses on the interpretation of Jewish songs (the group Chesed, the duo Marion with Monika Žáková), he plays compositions by Jaroslav Hedgehog and melodies from old movies, which he arranges for the guitar and also performs himself as a singer-songwriter with his songs. His father is the Czech guitarist and music teacher Štěpán Rak, with whom he forms the duo Rak & Rak.
