Antalová & Myhr
Norway-based jazz drummer Michaela Antalová threw down her drumsticks, grabbed a blizzard and embarked on an unexpected project with Norwegian double bassist Adrian Myrha. Inspired by Slovak folklore, they recorded Zvony together, a record that avoids traditionalist templates and compares domestic tradition with Scandinavian, avant-garde jazz influences.
Zvony is a unique combining folklore traditions and field recordings of a special duo. Michaela Antalová plays the fujara and the willow flute called seljefloyte. Fujara gently blends with the frequencies of the double bass played by Adrian Myhr. The Norwegian aliquot flute seljefloyte is very similar to the Slovak aliquot flute called the end. This makes it possible to compose new music that recalls both traditions. For this album, the duo also used a harmonium, a multi-track recording of flute and double bass, and field recordings of crickets caught in the village of Zlatno, as well as a recording of a male choir from Šumiac singing a traditional song in four-part harmony.
