Chris Ellys
As a "rhapsody traveling the country", he tells his songs through stories about the turning points of his journey, which he first embarked on in 2016 with his debut EP Lonely Tree. The recording approaches the moment of an early morning and waiting on the platform, Chris Ellys interprets with his raspy baritone moments stimulating the recognition of his personality on the road without the vision of returning to the previous habitat. In his songs, listeners can feel inspiration from several leading folk music artists of the past decades, such as Simon & Garfunkel, Bill Callahan or Passenger. He presented his indie-folk on stage through the home project Folkie Sessions or the world-famous BalconyTV project in the form of live performances in Poznań, Poland. At the beginning of 2017, this project was nominated as Discovery of the Year at the Radio_Head Awards. During the following years, he constantly gave concerts and lived "on the road", mostly outside his native country, where he played more than 130 concerts.
From the shores of the Baltic Sea to the shores of the North Sea, he gathered inspiration, which resulted in the second self-titled EP Spring Folks, which he released in early 2019. Thom Artway and Blanch also appeared on it. The EP was created continuously during his travels in nearby Liberec. In collaboration with the Czech producer Martin Havlen, on his second recording he focused more on the views of the existence of an individual in society, the main themes of which were the idea of freedom, the diversity of society or the spontaneity of a young person, easily mistaking values for his own desires. He described the overall gratitude for these stimuli in the song Going Up the Country as a boundless wandering through "a country without borders". Concert trips as part of the Going Up the Country tour brought him to the boards of European stages such as A38 in Budapest or Klub Stodoła in Warsaw. He also performed in concert at the Grape, Łódź Songwriters Festival, Dobrý Festival, Bunda Rokas and others. p>
The announced European tour was finally interrupted at the beginning of 2020 by the pandemic break, which with all its waves brought deeper themes for inspiration in the creation of his debut album.
