Ernst Schlader

Ernst Schlader is one of the best European specialists for the interpretation of baroque and classicist clarinet repertoire on historical instruments.

Ernst Schlader was born in Gmunden, Austria. He studied clarinet and organ, musicology and knowledge management in Linz, The Hague and Frankfurt. He teaches as honorary professor of historical clarinet instruments at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen and as a docent at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. His CD recording of sonatas for clarinet and piano by Johann B. Vaňhal won the Pasticcio Radio Austria 1 prize in 2014. For his musicological work on the composer Georg Pasterwiz, he received a talent scholarship for science from the state of Upper Austria in 2012. Ernst Schlader works as a scientific advisor at the Anton Bruckner Institute in Linz and at the Center for Performing and Researching Early Music at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
