Fanfán Tulipán
Fanfán Tulipán is a Czech jazz fusion band that was formed in 2009.
Playfulness, originality, groove and unusual instruments. This is the hallmark of Fanfán Tulipán, a cross-genre formation with Hammond melody, piano, saxophone, Estonian zither, music box and energetic rhythms. The main impulse of Fanfán's work is the play with imagery. A symbiosis of jazz, funk, film music and chanson with Estonian spices and Morse code rhythms. In the past, the band won the JazzFruit competition as part of the Mladí ladí jazz festival and in the Czech round of the international Jazz Prix competition.
The band was founded in 2009 by the composer Eliška Vidomus, who is the author of the repertoire - her compositions usually rely on strong bass grooves and vocal melodies. In the band, he plays Hammond melodica, Estonian zither and sings. Other members are: saxophonist Martin Forst, pianist Petr Svoboda, bassist Pavel Husa (Bizarre Band) and drummer Šimon Hajdovský (North Innergy). Fanfán Tulipán performed at the Bohemia Jazz Fest, Jazz an der Donau, Jazz Goes to Town, Bratislava Jazz Days , at the Bulgarian Bansko Jazz Fest or the Romanian SoundCzech festival.
The album Genius noci was created in 2023 in the SONO studio in collaboration with sound engineers Milan Cimf and Adam Karlík and with the contribution of several guests: trumpeter Oskar Török (Vertigo, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet), vibraphonist Radek Doležal (Mallet Q) and tubist Šimon Janák (Tygroo). The band also released the single Genius noci in a limited edition on vinyl, and an animated clip was created for it, which was shown at the AniFilm festival.
