Francisco López
Francisco López is a Spanish world traveler and sound hunter, a representative of contemporary experimental music. He firmly believes that music is there to be heard, and he does not hesitate to help listeners do that by denying any other perception in his recordings and concerts. His albums, which have reached triple digits over three decades, usually have no titles or images on the covers; at concerts, López performs in the dark, sits outside the stage and offers blindfolds to the audience. The message is concise, clear, logical and at the same time unusual across musical genres: “Listen! Forget the visual accompaniments of music, forget the image, open your ears!”
López is almost constantly on the road and creates his music from thousands of hours of field recordings. However, López's work is not a documentary or the equivalent of a tour of vacation memories, but a never-ending search for sound and nothing but sound. He marks his work with a reference to the pioneers of electronic music of the 1950s: absolute concrete.
