Gold Panda

Gold Panda is the stage name of English producer Derwin Dicker. He firmly established himself on the music scene with his debut album, which was released in 2010 and is called Lucky Shiner. “I didn't want to make beats or club anthems, I wanted to make songs with a traditional structure,” Derwin says of the record named after his grandmother. He recorded it in the solitude of his relatives' farm in Essex and had the result mixed by James Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco. The playful elements of his singles acquire almost epic proportions on the surface of a large record, but the music retains intimacy and warmth. In his long-playing debut, Gold Panda weaved strong experiences from a broken heart after a bitter breakup with a girlfriend to a fascination with oriental cultures, which he studied for many years. The album won the Guardian First Album Award.

Other recordings, including his latest album The Work from 2022, reflect his constant evolution and exploration of uncharted musical horizons. More recently, Gold Panda has been involved in other musical projects, including a collaboration with James Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco and creating music inspired by Ravi Shankar. His musical legacy continues in new forms of techno and hip-hop.
