Loten Namling
Loten Namling is a Tibetan singer, musician and cartoonist, lives in Switzerland, performs in many countries. Born in exile in Dharamsala, India, his parents fled Tibet after the suppression of an anti-Chinese uprising in 1959 and the departure of the 14th Dalai Lama. He studied Tibetan classical court music and singing, traditional Tibetan opera ache lhamo, he masters the Tibetan lute damňen and interprets both these traditional genres as well as folk music of various regions of Tibet and his own songs. He founded the rock, later pop-rock, band Porok Karpo, he likes to experiment, explore the relationships and connections of songs with culture. As a Tibetan rights activist, in 2013 he dragged a black coffin with the inscription Free Tibet on foot from Bern to Geneva. Dodo Hunziker made a documentary about him Tibetan Warrior (Tibetan Warrior, 2015).
