Mia Dyberg Trio

Mia Dyberg Trio is an international musical group operating in the field of contemporary jazz and free improvisation. The ensemble consists of Danish saxophonist Mia Dyberg, Austrian double bassist Asger Thomsen and German drummer Dag Magnus Narvesen. The formation established itself primarily within the Berlin experimental scene, while in its work it combines elements of Chicago free jazz with the European improvisational tradition.

The release of the debut album called Ticket! in 2018 under the prestigious label Clean Feed Records became the cornerstone of the trio's musical career. This recording documents the ensemble's work method, which consists in the transformation of literary and poetic stimuli into a musical structure. In their compositions, the group mainly relies on the rhythm and cadence of the texts of the Danish writer Dan Turèll. The performance of the ensemble is characterized by the alternation of short melodic fragments with abstract passages, in which the emphasis is placed on the mutual interaction of all three instruments in real time.

Currently, the ensemble is dedicated to the further development of collective improvisation and the presentation of its work at European jazz festivals. The trio's current work includes the use of extended instrumental techniques and the exploration of the sonic limits of an acoustic cast. In parallel, the members of the ensemble are involved in wider artistic collaborations in the field of performance art, thus connecting the musical component with visual and movement elements. The continuity of their activity consists in regular concert activity and in the expansion of the repertoire, which continues to draw on the connection of music and surrealist literary influences.
