Opera Lab Berlin
OPERA LAB BERLIN
Opera Lab Berlin is an ensemble for narrative-driven, contemporary music theater that puts the equality of all those working on and behind the stage at the center of theater production. On the one hand, this means the equality of singers and instrumentalists on stage as musicians and performers. On the other hand, the equal collaboration of all artists from all crafts enables a processual, collective authorship. Since its founding in 2013, the collective has staged over 25 independent productions, with compositions by over 50 different contemporary composers and over 20 different directors. The core of the ensemble has now grown to around 30 members, while the collaboration with artists and production staff extends to over 150 talents. Opera Lab builds teams in which mutual trust and responsibility are the highest values - and in which questions and conflicts are allowed. Opera Lab Berlin has always experimented with all parameters, from creative and working methods, theater forms to presentation media and platforms. In recent years, Ostravaganza, a mockumentary film about subversive new music in the GDR, has been made, Kreidler Conspiracy brought the first contemporary, performative live-streamed Advent calendar onto the streets of Berlin and home to subscribers on YouTube, who previously celebrated the success of the five new music pop covers from the Who's Afraid of Pop Culture project with over half a million views.
