Prague Sounds

Prague Sounds is a music festival in Prague. Founded in 1996 by the current directors Marek Vrabec and Martin Pechanec under the name Autumn Strings, it has since established itself as one of the most important musical events in the country, featuring an eclectic program including jazz, hip-hop, electronics, contemporary classical music and songs. In 2022, the festival was renamed Prague Sounds. The New York Times called the festival "one of Prague's most innovative musical acts".

For more than 25 years of its existence, the Prague Festival Sounds has established itself as one of the most important musical events in the Czech Republic, whose broad and eclectic program sheds light on the relationships between genres from contemporary classical music to jazz, hip-hop, electronica and song projects. Prague Sounds introduced a number of iconic musical personalities of world importance, but it also systematically presents a new generation of artists who were inspired by them - often in Czech premieres.

The festival that was born as Struny Podzimu under President Václav Havel, offers a bold program of multi-genre concerts in the premises of the entire castle grounds. Avant-garde jazz pianist Cecil Taylor, minimalist Michael Nyman, saxophonist Jan Garbarek in collaboration with the Hilliard Ensemble, and violinist Gidon Kremer indelibly wrote into the festival's history with memorable concerts.

With the end of Havel's presidency, the festival had to move outside the walls to the city under the Castle. It uses some of the most iconic spaces in Prague and is building a reputation thanks to a varied and high-quality program and by bringing foreign artists to Prague who have never performed here before - among them, for example, the Kronos Quartet, jazz pianist Brad Mehldau or vocal magician Bobby McFerrin.< /p>
