The Offspring

The band The Offspring was formed in the 1980s at the same time as other California groups Sublime, Rancid and Green Day, and thus participated in the revival of the punk-rock scene in the USA during the first half of the 1990s.

They first achieved a major commercial success with 1994's Smash, which sold over 12 million copies. Following this success, the band became interested in major labels, and The Offspring eventually signed a contract with Columbia Records. Their successful career started with this album. The first album with Columbia Records Ixnay on the Hombre was released in 1997 and received good reviews from critics. In 1998, the band released their fifth album, Americana, which is the band's most successful album. It has sold over 12 million copies and won several platinum awards. The following album Conspiracy of One from 2000 also received platinum certification. The album Splinter from 2003 was not as successful as the previous two, but it still won a gold record award. The group's next album is Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace from 2007, which was successful mainly thanks to the hit You're Gonna Go Far, Kid, which occupied the first place for 37 weeks number 1 in the US Alternative Songs chart of Billboard magazine. The ninth studio album, Days Go By, was released after a long delay on June 26, 2012. Their latest effort, Supercharged, was released in 2024. The group has sold over 34 million records, making became the second best-selling punk-rock group in history after Green Day.
