🎞️ Oživlé rodinné fotografie, intimní deníkové záběry i syrové záznamy tvoří brutálně upřímný i formálně překvapivý a hravý film, který zpracovává těžká témata. Současně jde o snímek nečekaně otevřený a pozitivní svou nezdolností, lidskostí a odvahou.

🕊️ When we‘re trying to save someone, to whom are we actually helping? Come to the Girl Power pre-premiere screening of the uncompromising debut and the best documentary film from this year’s Berlinale, selected as the Czech Republic’s entry for the Oscars – IF PIGEONS TURNED TO GOLD.
📱 For five years, filmmaker Pepa Lubojacki followed her brother and cousins, whose addiction had cost them their homes, relationships, and safety nets. She tried to trace the roots of their struggle and help them improve their lives, but often found herself caught in a cycle of failure and frustration. Her deeply personal storytelling brings attention to people whom society often overlooks or looks down upon. The director, who is also the screenwriter, editor, and protagonist of the film, holds up an uncomfortable mirror not only to others but also to herself. Still, she remains deeply attuned to the individual, their vulnerability and their right to make decisions about their own lives.

🎞️ Brought-to-life family photos, intimate diary footage and raw recordings come together to form a brutally honest, formally inventive and surpsrisingly playful documentary film that tackles difficult subjects, while remaining unexpectedly open and positive in its resilience, humanity, and courage. The filmmaker reveals her own family’s story, which does not end with a single person but points to much broader social issues that many people would rather not see. After the screening, we will take a closer look at these questions in a Q&A with the film’s director, Pepa Lubojacki, and Olga Jandová, head of the outreach programme at the Prague branch of Naděje, an organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness.
🎤 The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Pepa Lubojacki and Olga Jandová, a field worker at the Prague branch of the organization Naděje.
