On Wednesday, June 11 at 1:30 PM, Zuzana Sekeráková Búriková, Viera Poláková, and Veronika Valkovičová will present their paper "Digital technologies in romantic relationships in Slovakia: navigating sharing and autonomy."
The seminar will take place in person at Klemensova 19, room no. 94, in English.
Abstract:
This paper presents findings from research on usage of digital
technologies by couples, examining practices commonly perceived as expressions of love, care, and trust, which can, however, also be used as means for technologically mediated violence. Here we will focus specifically upon sharing access to a partner’s devices and applications and usage of applications enabling person to locate their partner’s phone. In particular, we will:
- Analyse prevalence of such practices among various social
categories such as gender, age, or marital status
- Apply processual and situational approach to practices of sharing access and locating partner
- Examine how these practices relate to both research participants’ opinions on the relationship with their partner and on their conceptualization of romantic relationships in digital era.
