Про подію
Noise as Ritual je praktický workshop vedený umelkyňou aemlx (Emilia Kurylowicz), ktorá vo svojej tvorbe vychádza zo slovanskej ľudovej mágie a rituálneho hluku. Poďme robiť hluk - zámerne, so zmyslom a s trochou neposlušnosti.

.
Noise as Ritual is a hands-on workshop led by artist aemlx (Emilia Kurylowicz), who will share her practice rooted in Slavic folk magic and ceremonial uproar.
.
Let's make noise, on purpose, with meaning, and with a bit of mischief. The workshop invites you into experimentation, play, and ritual.
.
Through conversation and making, we will explore the role of acoustic activities and noise-making in (ancient) rituals: anti-instruments, the symbolic functions of objects and materials, ritual gestures, and more.
.
Our process will follow three simple steps: EXPLORE / BUILD / PLAY. We will begin by exploring the resonance and sonic properties of materials and objects collected by the artist and the participants, alongside a discussion of the basics of DIY instrument making. We will then transform these explorations into personalized DIY noise boxes using simple electronic components such as piezo mics. Finally, we will experiment with ways of activating our ritual noise objects through different gestures and ways of playing them, and conclude with a playful jam session, a collective testing of the instruments and noise ritual.
.
No previous musical or technical experience is required, but lots of curiosity. Please note that we will use some "dangerous" tools (a drill and a soldering iron), so the workshop is better suited for adult participants, meaning anyone old enough to handle the tools responsibly.
.
What to bring:
- A wooden or metal box (an old cookie tin, a wooden storage container, a tin can), or any vessel with at least one flat surface that can be closed
- Small (or big) objects with interesting resonance qualities: small pipes, string-like objects, rubbers, chains, bendy objects, keys, pins, plates, springs, wires, or honestly anything that might sound interesting
- Optional: effect pedals, samplers, or other gear you'd like to use with your noise boxCuriosity, playfulness, openness
If you can't find anything suitable, some boxes and sound-making elements will be available at the workshop. But the idea is to make the objects personal, so it will definitely add to the project if you bring something meaningful: something from an old drawer that carries some kind of energy, or simply a piece of junk that caught your eye (or ear!).
