About event
Come and dance English country dances. We dance across the centuries:
- dances from Mr. Playford's prints The Dancing Master (1651-1728)
- dances from the 18th century and the Regency period
- revival in the twentieth century, dances by authors such as Pat Shaw
- contemporary newly written dances
English country dances are primarily social. The dances are written for groups of two or more pairs of dancers, and consist of a number of spatial figures such as a turn, a wheel, a grinder, etc.
The dances do not need to be learned in advance, nor do you need to remember them! We will first go through each dance without music, we will show and explain more complex or new figures.
Do you have no or only minimal experience with country dancing? Never mind! Come already for the 18:00 class, the first class is for you. We will explain the basic concepts, go through the most common figures and steps.
It is not necessary to come in pairs!
What to wear? We ask for dancing shoes without or only with a small heel (or dancing shoes), and for clothes that would be closer to social than sports.

These are social dances written for sets of several couples. Made of figures like a star, circle left, a hey, etc you can learn them on the go. We will explain and demonstrate any new figures.
No prior experience? Come at 6pm! First hour is for you. We will give you the orientation, show basic steps and figures.
You don't have to come with a partner!
