Bratislava will also become the center of contemporary design this year. The largest international design festival in Slovakia, Bratislava Design Week 2024, will take place on October 16-20.
It will be the 15th year and the main headquarters of the festival will be OD Prior on Stone Square and Mirbach Palace in the Bratislava City Gallery. Other festival locations will be spread around the Old Town. This year's theme is Relationships, which the festival explores in their various forms and connections through varied design projects. Relationships are sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden, but they always play a key role in a person's life - they define, change, educate and move him forward.
Main headquarters in OD Prior:
The main international curatorial exhibition will be located in OD Prior with a selection of existing works and works created directly for BADW in the curatorial concept of Damian Cehlárik. The star of the exhibition is the Italian studio Parasite 2.0, which prepared the main stage inspired by Bratislava's Istropolis and its mysterious history and ending. Activist organization Social label from the Netherlands will present their approach to the topic of social design. Czech studio Jansky Dunder is also a guest, and BADW is also behind the meeting of the young Prague footwear brand Pár and designer Julien Chaintreau (CH). Tin Ayala from Ecuador will bring a performance to the theme of decolonization and Sonia Górecka will focus on Slavic myths and their relation to contemporary nationalism. The Austrian multidisciplinary Eclect experiment with sound and space in the relationship of innocence and error.
Second headquarters in the Bratislava City Gallery:
In the premises of the GMB, the exhibition Expedition D, which will present a selection of current Slovak designer works and collaborations in various material and conceptual designs (Sylvia Jokelová and Jana Hojstričová, Vnem, Erik Vrábel, Erika Remencova and Ioko, Sylvia Sukopová and Otakar Sukop, Lucia Židek Gamanová, Martin Jurík and others). In the Masters of Slovak Design Edition BADW, he recalls the work of the bard of Slovak design Karol Weisslechner and furniture designer Ondrej Čverha. Ľubica Hustá is the curator of exhibitions at GMB.
