When the Black Death reached Europe in the middle of the 14th century, it did not stop even before the walls of Prešpork.

The plague first hit the city in 1349 and since then it has returned repeatedly. The last time was in the years 1710-1713, when it claimed thousands of victims and forced the inhabitants to bury the dead in new cemeteries outside the city walls.

Bratislava wanderings will bring you closer to what life was like in Prešpork during the plague epidemics, how and when it all started, how the city resisted the spread of the disease, where the culprit was sought, what the quarantines meant, what the role of the executioner, doctors or clergy and how the daily life of the inhabitants changed.
We will also take a look beyond the borders of Prešpork and transport ourselves to more than one ghost town....

We will zoom in on the places where plague cemeteries and plague pillars stood, which still remind us of these tragic events of the city, and at the same time point out the symbolism they depict.

We will tell the stories of people who survived or, on the contrary, succumbed to this disaster.

The Black Death was not just disease. It was a test of faith, cohesion and courage.
Prešporok was always able to recover from it, although every wave of the plague left deep scars in it.

The guided tour will last about 90 minutes.
